THE GUIDE TO FALL BY ZAC
AND ALL AT ONCE, SUMMER COLLAPSED INTO FALL - OSCAR WILDE Goodbye spontaneous beach trips! Goodbye over-sized beach hat that makes me feel like an old Hollywood movie star! Goodbye ice-cold drinks, sunny skies, and super cute platform sandals with bright colored nail polish on freshly painted toes! Goodbye precious summer days! Was that convincing? Did you guys buy that I enjoyed summer and haven’t been counting down the days till fall since the weather felt the slightest bit cold? Don’t get me wrong, I love summer as much as the next girl. From June to August, I spent my days playing tennis in New York City courts, taking swims in indoor pools, logging in a million movies into my Letterboxd, and eating sushi as much as possible aka chill girl summer. However, nothing compares to fall. I have waited for what feels like forever to have my beloved Pumpkin Spice Latte. Nothing tastes more glorious than the slight hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. I actually felt as though it transported me into the colorful forest of Vermont and jumping into leaf piles. I have never done that in my life btw but that is pretty much the best description of how the drink made me feel. You guys get it. This fall season is going to be super exciting since I have so much content that I will be creating for you guys since you know this is my all-time favorite time of year! I know I sound like Belly from The Summer I Turned Pretty, but for me, everything exciting happens during the months of September to December. Life feels happier. Maybe it’s all of Octobers candy or Novembers festivities, but I swear that these four months are magical. We have officially entered chunky sweater, pumpkin patch, spooky movie season. Grab some popcorn and read closely because I am going to share my guide to fall. Letterboxd Fall for me automatically equals cozy movie nights. This is where you bake tons of goodies and watch classics like When Harry Met Sally and It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Letterboxd is the best app for keeping track of everything you are currently watching and want to watch in the future. If you are a loyal Crystal Butterflies reader, you know that I proudly watch at least ten movies per month. What can I say? I am a sucker for throwing on a movie while I work (I am currently watching The Princess Diaries while writing this). I’m totally not saying you should stop reading right now and download Letterboxd. However, if you would love to stay up to date with what I am watching or see some of the watchlist I created, download immediately. You can find the official CB Letterboxd @cbbyzac and if you want to follow my personal account, which is way more chaotic, you can find me @cherhoeowitz. As an apple fan, I must admit that I prefer my apple pie and apple cinnamon donuts way more that the traditional and beloved pumpkin pie. Take a trip to your local apple farm and pick up a few apples to make some delicious treats. Here are some dishes that I know you’ll all love: Apple Pie Apple Doughnuts Apple Cider Apple Crisp Apple Bread Apple Cinnamon Rolls Philosophy body wash & Treehut scrub Fall is all about sweet smells and starting to transition back to indoor activities, since we just spent the summer partying outside. My recent fave has been the Philosophy Belgian body wash and the Treehut body scrub. It’s the perfect scent combo and smells ahh-mazing plus whenever I use it, I feel transported to a Bethany Mota Youtube video. If you are taking a long bath spent with jazz music, candles, and a good book, the body wash actually doubles as a bubble bath, but be sure not to eat the bubbles. (click to shop) Percy Jackson Percy Jackson is one of my all-time favorite book series! I read it for the first time in middle school and I am still as equally obsessed. If you haven’t read it yet, pick up the 5 book series and start reading. You will fall in love with the story of Percy Jackson and his wild adventures following classic Greek mythology characters. To make things even more interesting, Disney+ is set to release a tv series in December based on the series so you better catch up so you can experience the wonderful world of the halfblooods Lightweight Jackets A lightweight jacket is an essential for a fall wardrobe and the best part: it doubles as a Spring piece! I suggest you all invest in a neutral but chic jacket that’ll pair well with all your clothes. Recently I spotted a super cute fall jacket that I know you will all love. The scarf jacket from Abercrombie and Fitch is to die for coming in three colors - camel brown, cream white, and black. You can style this piece up or down, which I love. If you want to dress it up: mini skirt, sheer but patterned tights, white button up, and ballet flats or loafers. If you want to dress it down: jeans, t-shirt, platform Uggs or sneakers to match the color of whichever your jacket color is. My go to right now is a chocolate brown lip liner pencil to line the lips before adding the Rem Matte Lipstick in the shade Wine n Dine before topping with Rhode salted caramel. This lipstick has been my obsession since Rem dropped and you have to pick one up, even if it’s not in my recommended shade. It’s creamy, pigmented, and has the cutest magnetic packaging. I know a lot of you enjoy watching tv shows, so here are my fave fall picks when I want to cozy up, get a good snack, and feel all the fall vibes. Pretty Little Liars, Over the Garden Wall, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, American Horror Story:Coven, Gilmore Girls, The Vampire Diaries, Sabrina: The Teenage Witch, & Gossip Girl Why you should watch Pretty Little Liars: If you love watching tv shows that are female focused, you will love watching Pll. You will enjoy watching this group of four friends who are being stalked by an anonymous figure. You will fall in love with Hanna, Aria, Emily, and Spencer. Life for them is anything but easy as they navigate the disappearance of their best friend and avoid their secrets from getting exposed. Why you should watch Over the Garden Wall: The visuals of this limited series are enough to come back every year. Over the Garden Wall follows two brothers as go on an adventure and enter a magical forest called The Unknown. This series is necessarily scary, but has this spooky undertone that leaves you feeling a mixture of uneasy and enchanted at the same time. Over the Garden Wall is a true gem in the world of animation, and it’s definitely worth watching whether you’re a fan of the genre or not. The story is heartwarming; the animation is stunning, and the overall experience is simply magical. Kiernan Shipka and Ross Lynch are enough to get me to watch. If that hasn’t convinced you, you’ll be in love with the much darker and spookier take on the classic story of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. If you are someone who enjoys the scarier part of fall, tune into this. You are going to love the magical world of Sabrina plus her super cute outfits, which feature tons of red looks that are to die for. (Should I cover this?) Why you should watch American Horror Story Coven: This is one of my favorite seasons of Ahs (Sorry I am being a little basic). You just have to get it. This season is so Tumblr 2014. I remember exactly where I was when this first aired and how much I wanted the wardrobe. If you love Emma Roberts playing mean girl characters, witchy fashion, and gag-worthy comebacks, give it a watch. This particular season explores the world of witches and their powers. Tapping into themes of sisterhood, betrayal, and redemption. The cast is incredible, featuring Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, and Sarah Paulson. So if you’re in the mood for a spine-tingling, supernatural drama with a killer cast and an even killer storyline, American Horror Story Coven is definitely worth a watch. Why you should watch Gilmore Girls: If you love cozy fall vibes, you need to watch the lives of mother and daughter duo. Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, who live in one of the cutest fictional towns ever, Stars Hollow. Rory Gilmore will motivate you to study and possibly get into an Ivy League and Loreali Gilmore may give you a slight coffee addiction. The show’s witty dialogue and fast-paced banter will leave you wanting to hang with the Gilmores. Whether you’re a fan of romantic plots or strong female relationships, Gilmore Girls has something for everyone. So grab a warm drink, cozy up under a blanket, and join the Gilmore Girls for a heartwarming and entertaining journey. Why you should watch The Vampire Diaries: Need a long show to binge? You are going to love this. The Vampire Diaries has eight seasons filled with drama, love, and really hot vampires. From the first episode to the last, there’s never a dull moment with an interesting storyline, well-developed characters, and plenty of twists and turns. One of the best things about The Vampire Diaries is the character development. You’ll find yourself rooting for some characters and hating others, but as the show progresses, you’ll see them change and grow in unexpected ways. The Vampire Diaries has something for everyone: romance, action, drama, and a supernatural element. Why you should watch Sabrina The Teenage Witch: You are going to major 90s fashion inspiration from Sabrina Spellman and her aunts, Hilda and Zelda! If you're looking for a new sitcom, you're going to love this. fun show to watch. With a catchy theme song, colorful costumes, and magical special effects, the show is delight to watch and will become one you will find yourself rewatching over and over again Why you should watch Gossip Girl: A key to Crystal Butterflies! No one loves Gossip Girl as much as me. You have to know your basic GG knowledge to get through most articles (I can’t go two seconds without mentioning Blair Waldorf). Set in the land of luxury, New York City. Gossip Girl follows a pack of privileged teens as they navigate through the chaos of high school and the complexities of relationships. GG has everything you could want - drama, betrayal, and killer fashion.
